Birmingham Optical and Eyoto in distribution partnership
The companies have formed a partnership for the distribution and promotion of Eyoto’s automated slit lamp device
12 October 2026
Ophthalmic equipment supplier, Birmingham Optical, has formed a new partnership with Eyoto to support the latter with distribution and promotion of its automated slit lamp device.
Eyoto’s device uses artificial intelligence-enabled automation to allow non-clinically trained staff to record procedures required for asynchronous clinical review and also offers full remote control for clinicians.
The device is designed to provide consistent assessments across multiple sites and in various care settings, with the company suggesting that the technology can help to expand access to eye care and improve efficiency.
Rory Harrison, operations director at Birmingham Optical, commented: “Aetheia by Eyoto brings 4K optics to deliver exceptional image quality, while retaining the full range of standard slit lamp techniques. Its automated sequence captures examinations consistently every time, regardless of who is operating it, with every image stored for review, referral and audit.”
“The result is a practice that can see more patients, across more locations, with consistent clinical quality and a clear audit trail, all from one compact instrument that sits on a standard optical table and looks entirely familiar to the patient,” Harrison added.
The technology reduces training requirements and reliance on locum staff, Eyoto suggested, while freeing clinicians to focus on diagnosis and treatment rather than image acquisition.
A study by Eyoto of 119 patients across two clinics using its automated slit lamp found examination times were reduced by around 40% from 7.8 minutes during initial training to 4.4 minutes with routine use.
Tony Veverka, CEO at Eyoto, said of the partnership: “Together, this is a fantastic opportunity to expand the adoption of remote and technology-enabled eye care and support new models of eye care that give clinicians greater flexibility, while ensuring quality eye examinations are accessible to everyone, no matter where they are.”
