CooperVision has celebrated World Cleanup Day with the launch of a mini-documentary series showcasing its partnership with the social enterprise, Plastic Bank.

Through a collaboration with Plastic Bank, CooperVision funds the collection and recycling of ocean-bound plastic equivalent to the weight of plastic used in its participating products sold and distributed across 29 countries.

The offsetting initiative has resulted in the prevention of the equivalent of more than 360 million plastic bottles from entering the ocean.

Plastic Bank collector members can collect and exchange ocean-bound plastic waste in exchange for credits to purchase goods and services. This includes health, work, and life insurance, digital connectivity, grocery vouchers, and school supplies.

A vision care programme provides vision screenings and vouchers for complimentary eye examinations and glasses for eligible Plastic Bank collection members.

The first episode in CooperVision’s new docuseries follows a day in the life of Ni Luh Made Kariasih, one of Plastic Bank’s collector members in Bali, Indonesia. The film can be seen on the CooperVision website.

Future episodes will be released over the coming months and will explore different aspects of the initiative.

Aldo Zucaro, senior director, corporate responsibility at CooperCompanies, said: “As the first manufacturer to provide a full range of plastic neutral soft contact lenses, we are transforming and improving the wellbeing of people and planet.”

“Thanks to our Plastic Bank partnership, the eye care professionals who prescribe CooperVision plastic neutral contact lenses – and the people who wear them – together, we embody the spirit and impact of World Cleanup Day year-round,” Zucaro added.
