Topcon showcases Tera and Triton2

OT received a demonstration of the dry eye imaging technology and optical coherence tomography device at 100% Optical 2026

Topcon presented a suite of new technologies to support practices at 100% Optical (28 February–2 March).

New launches included the Tera Dry Eye Imager and Triton2 optical coherence tomography (OCT) device.

Dani Lee, clinical affairs manager for Topcon in the UK and Ireland, introduced the Tera Dry Eye Imager, telling OT: “It aligns really nicely with the new TFOS DEWS III recommendations and offers topography as well.”

The device offers a suite of non-invasive dry eye assessments, including non-invasive tear break-up time, ocular redness and lipid layer analysis, and also has functionality to enable practitioners to look at staining.

These measurements help practitioners to “build a comprehensive picture of what’s going on,” Lee suggested.

The platform includes the Ocular Surface Disease Index-6 questionnaire, with Lee explaining that this helps to ensure patients are entered into the correct pathways.

“We’re seeing more and more clinics opening up specialist channels and services to their patients, whether that be myopic control or dry eye,” Lee said.

Speaking to OT about how the demand for dry eye services has changed, Lee said: “There’s such a boom in dry eye. We’re seeing more and more about dry eye in menopause and certain patient groups as well.”

She continued: “Being able to show patients what’s going on with the condition and engage them with that treatment process helps to make sure that they are managed correctly. We know that they’re typically not great at that at-home management, but being able to show them what those problems are really helps to engage them much earlier on to follow those treatment protocols.”

The Triton2

The Triton2 offers multimodal swept source OCT and also includes slit-scan fundus imaging technology, which Lee said: “Illuminates the fundus to allow us to get images from just a two-millimetre pupil.”

The device has a wide field lens to support the capture of wider angle images, with 21mm OCT and OCT angiography images.

For patients, this technology enables practitioners to screen much more easily for conditions, Lee shared.

“Technology has come on so far,” she reflected, noting that scan speeds are much quicker and illumination is softer, providing a more ergonomic and comfortable experience for patients.

Lee told OT: “I suspect we’re going to see more and more integrated care where we’re seeing patients out in the community. If we can do that in a way that we don’t have to have patients dilated, so that they can drive themselves to their appointments, that suddenly makes things a bit easier.”
