Sharing the benefits of contact lenses

Marcella McParland, CooperVision’s senior director of professional affairs EMEA, told OT how the contact lens manufacturer is helping ECPs speak to patients in a new way about “the life-changing benefits of contact lenses”

CooperVision has been highlighting the benefits of contact lenses for “life’s beautiful moments” at industry events this year.

OT met with Marcella McParland, CooperVision’s senior director of professional affairs EMEA, at the BCLA Clinical Conference and Exhibition, to learn more about the company’s focus for 2025.

McParland said: “This year we are talking about life’s beautiful moments, giving eye care professionals the opportunity to speak to their customers in a different way about the life-changing benefits of contact lenses.”

The company has been highlighting the opportunities for “lifetime of wear” with contact lenses, from MiSight 1 Day for myopia management, to torics and presbyopic lenses.

“When we’re talking about our ranges, we’re leaning into the fact we can cover 99.96% of prescriptions, which is pretty mind-blowing,” McParland said.

She added that, through the soft contact lens ranges, “we have over 800,000 parameters.”

CooperVision also discussed its efforts to advance sustainability “for people and the planet.”

McParland said: “We’re looking at how we can explore sustainable practices globally across our manufacturing and operations.”

The company is looking at sustainable sourcing, as well as recovery and repurposing to ensure waste from manufacturing processes can be recycled.

CooperVision also has an offsetting initiative with Plastic Bank, through which the contact lens manufacturer purchases credits equal to the weight of plastic used in its one-day contact lenses, the blister and outer carton packing.

An equal amount of plastic is then collected by Plastic Bank, preventing the waste from entering water sources.

Through the partnership with Plastic Bank, CooperVision has helped prevent the equivalent of 500 million plastic bottles from entering the oceans.

McParland commented: “That’s a really big milestone moment for us – but it’s pushing us to do more and lean into this area.”
