Bausch + Lomb launches new lens for presbyopic patients

“This lens takes comfort further,” Bausch + Lomb’s Petra Vacca told OT at the launch of the new product

Bausch + Lomb has introduced its new Ultra one day multifocal contact lens into the UK market.

Speaking to OT during a launch event for London practitioners, the company’s director of business for the UK, Ireland and Nordics, Petra Vacca, explained that the lens is designed to support the growing presbyopic audience.

“We believe we are pushing the boundaries of presbyopic contact lens wear to a different level,” she said.

The event, hosted at The Ivy Tower Bridge, aimed to introduce the lens to practitioners, informing delegates about how it can support both their practices and their patients to, “see and live better even when presbyopia comes,” Vacca said.

Describing the new Ultra one day multifocal as Bausch + Lomb’s most progressive lens, Vacca explained that the lens combines three unique technologies: advance moisture seal technology, comfort feel technology, and a three-zone progressive design.

The technology “takes moisture to another level,” Vacca emphasised, highlighting that it has a 55% water content level and retains 96% of the moisture in the lens for the full 16 hours.

The comfort feel technology utilised in the lens was developed and inspired by the findings of the TEFOS DEWS II report, Vacca shared. “During the day, the lens is designed to release comfort and eye health ingredients into the tear film to ensure stability of the ocular surface,” she added.

Vacca described the fitting of the lens as simple. “This lens, because of its design, which is so consistent across any power, makes the fitting so simple – it’s only two adds that need to be considered to choose the lens,” she shared, highlighting that 99% of fittings are completed in a maximum of two visits.

Describing what the new lens means to the Bausch & Lomb lens portfolio, Vacca told OT: “Having this daily silicone hydrogel contact lens in the multifocal segment for presbyopes complements the great monthly offering we have in the Bausch & Lomb Ultra monthly family.”

She added: “It makes us a strong player in a segment that is the fastest growing segment of the contact lens market.”
