Light innovation
Equipment
Topcon Great Britain launched the Eye-light device for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) at 100% Optical.
The eye-light device is manufactured by Espansione Group, with different photobiomodulation terminals to treat a range of conditions. The latest release adds AMD to the existing portfolio.
The launch follows the publication of the first results from the LightWave I clinical trial, focused on AREDS 2 and 3 dry AMD, by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
The first results from the longitudinal, double-masked study, which ran across seven centres and encompassed data from more than 150 eyes, was also published in Ophthalmology and Therapy.
The company suggested that the clearance marks a potential breakthrough in the workflow of managing dry AMD patients, and presents new opportunities to investigate the effectiveness of photobiomodulation on retinal conditions.
Fergal Byron, senior technical products manager at Topcon, explained that the addition of the Eye-light device for treating dry AMD “enables us to provide not only advanced diagnostic tools for detecting and monitoring AMD, but also an innovative, non-invasive treatment solution, supported by robust clinical evidence, for the management of dry AMD.”

New in myopia management
Lenses
Deepcove Optical has highlighted the Optiswiss Smyle myopia management lens. Launched in March, the lenses have been developed in collaboration with the Brien Holden Vision Institute.
The lenses feature three functional zones: a central zone for clear vision, asymmetrical defocus areas tailored to the natural retinal shape, and peripheral defocus zones.
Clinical studies in Europe have indicated that Smyle lenses can reduce myopic progression by up to 39% within 12 months. The lenses also include UV protection.
To offer a comprehensive myopia management programme, Deepcove recommended the Oculus Myopia Master to accurately measure axial length, a key metric to gauge the success of the treatment programme.
To complete the package, Optiswiss also offers a range of premium biometric lenses across varifocal, occupational and single vision, utilising the measurements taken by the Oculus Myopia Master. These additional lenses can help to cover the investment cost in equipment.

A caffeine boost
Spectacles
Launched in May 2023, The Eyewear Cafe is run by husband-and-wife team, Adam and Malya Librae.
The supplier has three coffee-themed collections: ‘Latte’ which offers traditional styles, the ‘Mocha’ series of colourful frames, and the ‘Espresso’ line of boutique models.
Describing the business as “the new kids on the block in the frame world,” Adam Librae told OT: “We’re a small company with few overheads. As a result, we aim to be the best value for money supplier in the UK.”
Acknowledging that boutique frames can be expensive for optical practices, he suggested that with the ‘Espresso’ collection: “We’re filling a gap in the market where practices can try something different at a more affordable price with no compromise on quality.”

Adjustability and comfort
Tools
Dibble Optical has added the Trial Frame RF-680 to its product line.
The trial frame features adjustable temples, with lengths ranging from 120mm to 150mm, and weighs 58 grams. The temple ends provide a secure and comfortable fit behind the ear.
The corneal vertex distance scale ranges from 0 to 14mm for flexibility in meeting a variety of requirements.
The Trial Frame RF-680 can hold up to 10 trial lenses, with five slots on each side, all compatible with lenses of 38 mm diameter.

Game on
Sunglasses
The new collection from French brand, Woow, takes playful inspiration from the sporting world.
“Step onto the podium and proudly showcase your colours, attitude and talents,” the brand said, introducing the new frames.
The models are bright, mixing sophisticated patterns and materials with bold colours.
The chunky ‘Kick off’ frame, made from bioacetate, has a vintage look in a rectangle or square shape. The style uses a palette of blues, reds, yellows, and greens, reminiscent of university sports aesthetics.
The ‘Super fit’ has an oversized acetate front featuring a ‘sunset’ gradient, with a subtle galvanised outline and thin sides. The model is available as a large cat’s eye or an oversized square.
And don’t miss this...
Precious pieces

Götti Switzerland has presented its ‘Precious objects’ collection of frames made from titanium and refined with gold, palladium, or rose gold, and featuring a brown gradient lens.
Each element of the frame is pressed from titanium in a traditional technique carried out in Japan. A layer of gold, rose gold, or palladium colour is combined with the titanium. The glasses are finished with a high-gloss polish and metallic coating.
The brand highlighted the craftsmanship of subtle details in the frame design, from the curved end piece, made from a single piece of titanium, to titanium nose pads and screws which feature a Torx screwhead.
The frames are presented in a box containing a synthetic leather case, microfibre cloth, screwdriver and certificate of authenticity.
Striking icons

Blackfin has reimagined two of its iconic sunglasses styles, creating the new and evolved ‘Arc-R’ and ‘Slot-R.’
The frames have more angular and defined lines, while the shapes of the frames have been optimised for a superior fit and an ideal balance between aesthetics, comfort, and functionality.
The models are available in Blackfin black, olympic blue, and iridescent grey – a shimmering hue that fades between a grey-green and violet-lilac.
Two special editions have also been launched in lunar white gold and obsidian black gold, both treated a nano-plating PVD coating.
