Johnson & Johnson has announced the roll-out of the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism has been designed to address the evolving needs of astigmatic patients, with Johnson & Johnson describing it as “the first and only daily disposable multifocal toric contact lens for astigmatic presbyopes.”

The company highlighted that astigmatism affects about half of patients in at least one eye, while it is estimated that, with the ageing population, up to 2.1 billion people globally will develop presbyopia by 2030.

The Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism has been developed with built-in personalisation, the company said, supported by Acuvue’s Eye Inspired Innovations.

Johnson & Johnson found that nearly 91% of wearers were successfully fit in their first pair of lenses at their first visit with the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism.

The company has introduced a set of practical demonstration and digital tools including the Acuvue simplifit calculator combining astigmatism and multifocal calculators.

The Acuvue Astigmatism Demonstration Flipper also enables eye care professionals to demonstrate the visual benefits of astigmatism correction. The company suggests this can support confidence in both practitioners and patients and offers a more personalised vision correction experience.

Mathilde Beau, managing director western Europe, Johnson & Johnson, said: “Astigmatic patients with presbyopia remain an underserved group, and addressing this unmet need has been a key focus of our innovation efforts.”

The launch builds on the UK introduction of the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism in September 2025, she added.

Beau said: “Together, these new products enable eye care professionals to more confidently meet the complex visual needs of their patients, as they navigate an increasingly digitally demanding world, while supporting patient care across different life stages.”

Johnson & Johnson shared that, with the new contact lens, 95.3% of patients report clear vision during daily activities, and 92% of patients report comfort throughout the day and at the end of the day.

Faye McDearmid, optometrist and practice owner, commented: “I’m seeing many patients who have both astigmatism and presbyopia seeking a daily disposable lens that really works for their lifestyle. Having a multifocal toric lens will make a genuine difference.”

The new fitting tools, McDearmid said: “will allow me to spend more time talking with patients to better understand their needs, providing care that feels truly tailored.”

Johnson & Johnson will showcase the new multifocal toric lens at 100% Optical (28 February–2 March).

The contact lens is now available in the UK and Ireland in select practices with a wider rollout in spring 2026.
