Julian Davies Opticians hosted a sports day for staff and their families this month (Saturday 9 August).

The practice group held its first ever staff sports day at Heol y Delyn playing fields in Lisvane, Cardiff.

Around 50 colleagues and family members joined event, which was supported by other local businesses.

Swansea-based caterer, Ele’s Little Kitchen, provided paella and pintxos, whilst Football Funatics led a series of games and challenges.

Attendees were split into two teams, before going head-to-head in a series of activities.

The winning team was headed up by Jen Ali, practice manager at Julian Davies Opticians’ St Mellons practice.

The winning team selected Whitchurch-based Velindre Cancer Charity to receive a £500 donation from the practice group.

The charity funds cancer services that extend beyond what the NHS is able to offer. Along with Velindre Cancer Service, its work has benefitted more than 1.7 million people across South Wales.

Julian Davies Opticians is a group of Hakim Group independent practices that has served South Wales since 1992.

The group’s managing director, Chris Tannorella, said: “Julian Davies Opticians has always been about more than eye care: it’s about people. Our team, our patients, and our local communities are all part of the same story.

“Sports day was a fantastic chance to get outdoors, support other local businesses, and spend time with our families, while also making sure a local charity benefited too. It’s definitely something we’ll look to build on year after year.”
