Birmingham Optical acquired by Advancing Eyecare

The optical equipment supplier, Birmingham Optical Group, has been acquired by Advancing Eyecare (AEC), a provider of ophthalmic instruments in North America. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Birmingham Optical has been a supplier to the optical industry in the UK for more than 60 years, providing equipment and services to optometry practices, hospitals, eye care clinics, and optical laboratories.

The company is the exclusive distributor of Nidek products in the UK and Ireland, and also has partnerships with Natus, Keeler, Oertli, Hanita Lenses, and Volk.

Following the acquisition, Birmingham Optical will continue to be led by Arran Fewkes and the current management team, operating as a division of AEC.

The acquisition establishes a strong presence for AEC in the UK, expanding its global footprint. Meanwhile, Birmingham Optical will benefit from AEC’s infrastructure, proprietary product lines, and global manufacturer relationships, the companies said.
