Contact Lens Precision Laboratories (CLPL) has acquired the Scottish custom contact lens manufacturer, Scotlens.

CLPL is the parent company of specialty soft contact lens manufacturer, Ultravision, and is part of the SEED group.

Scotlens is known for its custom lens designs and fitting knowledge in patients with keratoconus, post-surgical corneas, and complex vision requirements, as well as those who require orthokeratology.

The companies suggest the acquisition will enhance the ability of the combined company to serve eye care professionals and patients with specialised vision needs.

Sarahjane Cross, CEO of CLPL and Ultravision, said: “Bringing Scotlens into the CLPL family represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide innovative vision solutions for challenging eye conditions.”

Cross suggested that, as a subsidiary of SEED, the acquisition would further strengthen the company’s global presence, whilst maintaining Scotlens’ reputation for clinical excellence and personalised care.

The acquisition is expected to expand the combined product portfolio to address a wider range of complex vision conditions.

It is also expected that the acquisition will enhance manufacturing capabilities and increase production capacity, along with strengthening research and development resources.

Scott Brown, CEO of Scotlens, commented: “We are excited to join forces with CLPL and Ultravision and become part of the SEED group. This partnership will allow us to extend our reach and bring our specialised lens designs to more patients globally while maintaining the personalised service that has defined Scotlens.”

The backing from SEED provides additional resources to enable the company to further enhance its solutions, Brown said.

Practices currently fitting Scotlens products will continue to receive the lenses and service, the companies highlighted, with additional access to Ultravision’s product range and resources.

The companies noted that orders for Scotlens products can continue to be made through the existing ordering channels.
