New Zeiss technology offers full UV protection in clear lenses
The lens company is educating patients and supporting practitioners with a campaign in support of the launch
08 May 2018
Zeiss has launched its 'UVProtect Technology,' which provides full UV protection in all clear Zeiss lenses.
The lens company explained that current standards require clear lenses to provide protection up to 380 nanometres (nm), but 40% of UV radiation in daylight occurs between 380–400nm.
By providing sunglass-level protection in all of its clear lenses, Zeiss said that the risk to a patient’s eye health from UV radiation is reduced.
Marketing and communications director at Carl Zeiss Vision UK, Peter Robertson, said that as part of the launch, the lens company is educating patients about the associated risks of UV radiation.
“We will be supporting our eye care practitioner partners by providing practices with a range of informative point-of-sale materials, demonstration and promotional tools in addition to a nationwide awareness campaign,” Mr Robertson explained.
He added: “It is important to explain to patients that UV light is present all day, every day and not just when the sun is shining.”
