Through the new role, Harper will also support the group’s 51 UK practices to work towards Bayfields’ net zero targets.

Harper joined the Bayfields client communications team in 2020 and completed a Master’s (MSc) in sustainable development ahead of her appointment to the new role.

Commenting on her appointment, Harper shared: “Sustainability has always been a passion of mine, both personally and professionally, so I jumped at the chance to drive Bayfields’ sustainability strategy.”

“As a business, we truly believe that small steps lead to significant change and we’re passionate about making a positive impact on the environment, the communities we operate in, and the optical industry as a whole,” she continued.

Several initiatives already form part of Bayfields’ sustainability strategy, such as including sustainable eyewear brands in every practice, and partnering with TerraCycle to recycle patients’ old contact lenses and packaging.

Announcing the new appointment, Bayfields said the creation of the role supports its pledge to offset carbon emissions and minimise its environmental footprint.
