Topcon Healthcare has launched its new refraction system in Europe, the Chronos Automated Binocular Refraction System with SightPilot guided refraction software.

Topcon Chronos is a digital refraction solution combining autorefraction, keratometry and subjective refraction into one device.

The system is fully automated and also features the SightPilot guided refraction software, which offers a step-by-step guide through the refraction process and instructions to proceed based on the patient’s response.

The company suggests Chronos also reduces the number of conventional refraction lanes and additional refractometers needed.

John Trefethen, global vice president of marketing and product design for Topcon Healthcare, believes that “Topcon Chronos reinvents refraction.” He added that the all-in-one system saves time and space, while also supporting practitioners in growing their practice.

“Topcon Chronos is the culmination of Topcon’s commitment to developing highly advanced multi-modal medical devices and software platforms that allow today’s eye care providers to practice smarter, safer, and more efficiently than ever before,” Mr Trefethen continued, suggesting the technology “changes the game” for eye care providers.

BBR Optometry in Hereford announced that it is the first practice worldwide to install Topcon Chronos, calling it “a great addition to our practice.”

Earlier this year OT spoke with Topcon’s John Trefethen about the company’s planned product launches and the impact of COVID-19.
