Bioacetate in the frame with Modstyle
Will Cooksey, country manager and director of Modstyle Eyewear UK, spoke to OT about the Project Green collection at 100% Optical
For Modstyle Eyewear UK, the focus at 100% Optical (1–3 March) was on bioacetate frames, colourful styles, and tailoring ranges to the customer base.
The business, which forms part of a larger Australian company that has been running since 1981, launched in the UK in 2022.
At 100% Optical this year, Modstyle Eyewear UK showcased its Project Green range of eyewear made from bioacetate.
The collection features sustainable packaging and cork cases, while the brand has partnered with the charity, One Tree Planted, to plant a tree for every frame purchased.
Many of the frames also feature a unique hinge design that provides additional flexibility and durability.
Will Cooksey, country manager and director for Modstyle Eyewear UK, said: “It’s a very nice story. A lot of practices are wanting to have something to show in that [eco-friendly] space in their practices now.”
Considering the push for sustainability in eyewear, he shared: “I think eco-friendly is not going to go anywhere. We’re really proud of where we are with this. We have just signed up to Net Zero, so we’re looking forward to making our processes net zero across all of our brands.”
Modstyle Eyewear also presented its Eclipse range of lightweight styles, and Avanti collection, characterised by colourful acetates and metals in commercial shapes.
Cooksey told OT: “We’ve just started an offshoot in our Avanti brand for chunky acetates, in mind of the younger market coming up who are looking for the bolder look.”
Discussing what practices can consider when stocking collections, Cooksey shared: “It’s important to know your own customer base.”
“It needs to come from your customer. Your customer is always going to dictate where you are going to go. It’s listening when you’re selling frames to what people have said they want, we can tailor the range to fit,” he said.
The Avanti range, for example, can be curated for practices with earthy colourways, or colourful and bold selections, or a mixture, Cooksey suggested.
