Davina Dosanjh on how core values strengthen her practice’s resilience

The optometrist and owner of Richard Petrie Optometrists spoke with OT for the June/July Practice resilience edition

Optometrist, Davina Dosanjh, has spoken with OT about navigating the challenges of business ownership to build a thriving – and award-winning – practice.

In conversation for OT’s June/July The practice resilience edition, the owner of Richard Petrie Optometrists shared that in order to perform at her best within the business, she takes time out for herself.

“For me, that means going for long walks, going to the gym, reading, doing some yoga and spending some time with the kids,” she said.

“The rest of the time at the business can be quite intense, but that is my antidote,” Dosanjh shared.

The optometrist discussed a set of core values that underpin the work she does at Richard Petrie Optometrists: dedication, specialist and honesty.

“As the leader and the person driving this practice forward, those core values are also personal. It is a way of me sharing and trying to be as clear as possible about how I want the practice to be run,” Dosanjh observed.

All staff agree to the core values, which then guide interactions with colleagues, patients and suppliers.

“We do use those values right from the word go. They are sent out to any interviewee and I will make sure they are aware of them, that they have looked over them and that they feel they are a good fit for that particular person,” she said.
