Optometrists were photographed in Gateshead and London for an edition exploring how optical careers are evolving to bring work-life balance to the fore

Photographs were captured at a Goodmayes independent practice and a County Durham for village OT’s October/November Flexibility matters edition.
Independent prescribing optometrist and practice owner, Noor Sher, welcomed photographer Louise Haywood-Schiefer to Iris Eye Care, while domiciliary optometrist and AOP Councillor, Simon Raw, was photographed at his parents’ home in the Gateshead village of Rowlands Gill.
Reflecting on the experience, Raw shared that he enjoyed the photoshoot despite being out of his comfort zone to begin with.
“I haven’t smiled so much for a camera since my wedding day,” he said.

Simon’s mother, Margaret, kindly agreed to pose as a patient for the photoshoot with photographer, David Wood.
“She was happy to help with the shoot and did very well,” Raw shared.
The optometrist added that Wood skilfully navigated rain showers and finding the optimum lighting during the photoshoot.
“The photographer was very professional and put us all at ease,” he said.
Conducting the photoshoot before her Goodmayes practice opened created a peaceful environment for Sher.
Sher told OT that one of her New Year’s resolutions was stepping outside of her comfort zone – and the photoshoot seemed like an ideal opportunity to do this.
“Louise had planned the shots before we started, so everything was very well thought out and organised,” Sher told OT.
“She was very lovely and accommodating. We got chatting, and Louise made the whole experience feel very comfortable,” she said.
