Myopia management updates webinar recordings now live

A suite of webinars exploring updates in myopia management have been made available on the OT Education Library.

OT, in partnership with the AOP and headline sponsor, CooperVision, held Myopia Day on 19 July, a series of education sessions delivered by national and international experts on the contemporary clinical management of myopia.

A selection of webinar recordings from the day are now available to watch on-demand.

Sessions available to watch include Eyes on the future – what's new in myopia management by Charlotte Bell, a dispensing optician and myopia consultant, South, at Hoya, providing an overview of the latest innovations in myopia management.

Elizabeth Yeowart-Montgomery, a medical science liaison at EssilorLuxottica, led a session on How to identify and manage a pre-myope, reviewing the evidence supporting prescribing plano myopia control spectacles and the outcomes of this intervention, as well as guidance on counselling parents.

Dr Alex Nixon, principal research optometrist, and Xu Cheng, clinical research fellow and myopia lead at Johnson & Johnson, led the session: Beyond spectacles – real-world insights and three-year evidence in paediatric myopia control.

The speakers highlighted the importance of understanding the real-world challenges families face in managing childhood myopia, with insights from a survey into children and parent’s experiences with vision correction.

They also discussed three-year global clinical data on the myopia control efficacy of a soft contact lens in children aged seven to 12 years old.

Cian Gildea, a clinical optometrist at contact lens specialist at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital and the Wellington Eye Clinic, presented: Make your impact – embracing orthokeratology in practice.

The sessions, supported by Bausch + Lomb, dove into the practical stages of fitting ortho-k lenses and an evaluation of fitting approaches, also considering strategies for integrating ortho-k into everyday practice workflows.
