Topcon Healthcare has received CE mark approval for Gaia – its fully automated ultra-widefield retinal imaging device.
Gaia is designed to deliver true-colour ultra-widefield fundus imaging, offering a 209° field of view in a single capture.
The device features automated alignment, non-contact, non-mydriatic operation and is designed to be user-friendly and compact.
Hideyuki Takizawa, president of the eye care business division at Topcon, said: “Gaia represents Topcon’s response to the increasing prevalence of retinal disease that requires a wider field of view than traditional fundus cameras, enabling better visualisation of the peripheral retina, which may support early disease detection and management.”
The company has said it will make Gaia commercially available in the EU over the coming weeks, with the launch planned at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery from 11–15 September in London.
Joe Keenan, regional president EMEA, shared: “Gaia represents a major milestone in our imaging portfolio.”
He added that the company is “proud” to bring a new ultra-widefield imaging solution to market.
