Amar Aslam, an optometrist at Boots Opticians in Braehead, has been named a winner at the Retail Week Awards 2026.

Aslam received one of the evening’s highest accolades, the Pride of Retail Award, at a ceremony held in London last month (19 March).

The award is among the most prestigious of the night, recognising the vital and unique contributions made by exceptional retail professionals across the UK.

The award recognised the clinical care Aslam delivered earlier this year, when he identified a serious health issue in a four-month-old baby who had been brought into the practice by a worried mother unable to secure a GP appointment.

Aslam was able to ensure the child was referred for urgent medical attention, an intervention that proved life-saving.

Speaking after the ceremony, Aslam said: “I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award – it was completely unexpected.”

He added: “I’m just grateful I was able to help a family who needed our expertise and support. This recognition really reflects the compassion and dedication of all my colleagues at Boots Opticians, who care for their communities every day.”

Ali Fortune, store manager at Boots Opticians in Braehead, called Aslam an “outstanding optometrist and clinician,” adding: “The care that he gives every day to our community here in Braehead truly is unmatched.”

“He always puts his patients at the very heart of everything he does, and everyone at Boots Opticians is hugely proud to see him win this incredible national award on behalf of the whole retail industry,” Fortune said.
