Heather Muir, a contact lens technician, has described the “memorable experience” of going behind-the-scenes of a television production to support with contact lens handling.

The contact lens technician from Hakim Group independent practice, Cameron Optometry, in Edinburgh, worked with the production team behind the upcoming television series Department Q, which was filmed on location around the Scottish capital.

Muir was brought on-board to support the safety, comfort, and visual accuracy of the actors, primarily working with actor Steven Miller through the shoot, as well as a day assisting Kai Alexander with lens handling.

The contact lenses used in the production were supplied by the Northamptonshire-based company, Cantor Barnard, which has more than 60 years of experience in the film industry.

Muir worked closely with makeup designer Lizzi Lawson-Zeiss, whose credits include Napoleon and Blade Runner, along with a team of makeup artists.

Directed by Scott Frank, Department Q is based on the best-selling series of novels, and is available to watch on Netflix.
