Marcolin has shared its trend outlook for Spring/Summer 2021, with minimalism and sustainability key trends going forwards.

The eyewear company has revealed its Spring/Summer collections for Swarovski, Moncler, Adidas and Guess, as well as sharing its insight into key trends in the season ahead.

The Marcolin creative team shared: “In a hyperconnected world there are many different trends available to explore, but consumers are more and more conscious, looking for comfortable products that offer sustainability. Minimalism is the key Spring/Summer 2021 seasonal trend, combined with futuristic touches.

“In terms of shapes, eyewear silhouettes shift from small and rounded to distinctly oversized and angular. For SS21, statement models with innovative profiles are preferred over subtle and classic styles.”

The pilot profile will continue to be a staple shape, the eyewear company suggests, with key updates including warped downturned shapes and pops of colour.
“Oversized retro shapes, absent nose bridges and mismatched lenses are also new for the season,” the company said.

Slim designs, meanwhile, will utilise an angular look, drawing on the trend for hexagonal shapes.

Retro frames will take on exaggerated proportions, drawing inspiration from the 70s. The rounded profile will remain a must-have, the company suggests, while thin metal wires will ensure a lightweight feel to oversized designs.

The cat eye shape will remain a key silhouette, the creative team suggest, even while the almond shape rises to the forefront of popularity. The cat eye will become less angular and exaggerated than seen in previous seasons, with monochrome acetate remaining the key commercial colourway.

“Tinted lenses are still key for seasonal colour updates, while optical styles are back with thick tortoiseshell frames for a sophisticated, yet bold statement. Animal prints also offer a fun update,” the team shared. Frame embellishments like crystals and gemstones will also be key details.

Spring/summer collection previews

Swarovski - The latest eyewear collection for Swarovski takes inspiration from the brand’s jewellery icons, reimagined as “refined and glamorous frames.” The collection includes frames that take inspiration from the night sky and feature a variety of presentations of Swarovski crystal embellishments around the lenses.

The Moncler Lunettes line is designed for an outdoor lifestyle and focuses on three themes that continue on from previous collections. ‘Sport’ showcases “heritage-inspired” frames made for both mountain and city-wear. ‘Duvet’ offers a puffy-effect, crafted with a thermoforming technique that makes the structure lightweight. The third theme features classic and retro-style shapes.

Adidas Originals and Adidas Sport - The Adidas Originals collection draws from the brand’s archives while continuing to commit to innovation. The collection includes a 90s inspired butterfly-shaped frame with a contemporary twist, and two pilot shield designs – one shaped from a lightweight metal, and the other utilising acetate.

The Sport collection, meanwhile, features athletic eye wear designed to accompany wearers from the ‘stadium to the street’. Included in the collection are the ‘SP0015’, ‘SP0026’ and ‘SP0017’ frames, made from TR90, a highly stress-resistant and lightweight material, designed to offer comfort and protection.

Guess - The new Guess eyewear collection aims to stand out with easy-to-wear and feminine silhouettes. The collection draws on the brand’s DNA, including the use of its triangle logo, animal print and jewel detailing. The Guess peony logo is also featured in the collection and referenced from the patterns in the ready-to-wear collection. The men’s collection features a strong and rectangular G logo.
