An optometry practice with a difference formed the backdrop to OT’s December 2024/January 2025 The money matters edition cover story photoshoot.

Optometrist Rashida Shaikh heads EyePad Opticians in Old Trafford, Manchester – an optometry practice located alongside a GP, pharmacy, library and other community services in the Limelight hub.

For customers and patients, the hub offers a one-stop-shop where they can look after their health, get their hair cut or stock up their bookshelves in the same location. “The photoshoot was a lovely experience,” Shaikh told OT.

“The photographer was very professional and put me at ease. He had a friendly approach towards the staff members as well,” she said.

IP optometrist Bhavina Patel was photographed at the Purley branch of R Woodfall Opticians. As well as working in practice, Patel lectures at City St George’s and is joint clinical lead for Primary Ophthalmic Solution in South East London.

Patel told OT that she usually prefers to be behind the camera rather than in front of one. “That being said, my photographer was charming, kind and incredibly supportive. She intuitively knew what to say to make me feel comfortable.”

Practice visitors were initially wary of the photoshoot, then became inquisitive and began enjoying the spectacle.

“Practice colleagues were definitely amused the whole time with both patients and practice staff happily chiming in suggestions for shots,” Patel shared.
