Mondottica presents street luxe with Off-White

Sandra Battistel, design director for Mondottica, talked OT through the new collection

Mondottica showcased one of its latest acquisitions, Off-White, at 100% Optical (28 February–2 March).

Sandra Battistel, design director for Mondottica, presented the new collection to OT, sharing: “Off-White is very interesting from the point of view of the branding – it’s heavily branded. It’s for the type of customer who isn’t shy to show off a branded product.”

Mondottica works with Off-White alongside the creative director of the fashion brand, Ibrahim Kamara.

While the colours of many of the frames in the collection are quite classic, such as black and tortoiseshell, the designers have played with the colour of the lenses.

Describing the kinds of wearers who might be drawn to these frames, Battistel told OT: “It is a great collection for the type of customer who is looking for distinctive branding. A very confident customer. A customer who likes street luxe and is really embracing that type of look.”

Battistel highlighted the ‘Virgil’ sunglasses, briefed by the founder of Off-White, Virgil Abloh.

The frame features chunky acetate with the bold Off-White arrow logo on the temples.

Presenting the brown frame with blue lenses, Battistel shared: “I like the combination of the classic tortoiseshell with the tinted lenses. This has been really successful.”

The frame itself has been designed to showcase the lighter speckles within the rich brown acetate. Battistel said: “Depending on which angle you look at it, there is a real depth and richness in the colour and texture, and the way it reflects the light.”
