Setting up a dry eye clinic

Sam Wymer, co-founder and sales and marketing director of The Body Doctor, explained the benefits of the Dry Eye Revolution 2.0 to OT at 100% Optical

The Body Doctor launched Dry Eye Revolution 2.0 at 100% Optical (1–3 March), aiming to support independent practices in establishing dry eye clinics.

The company first launched Dry Eye Revolution in 2024 to help practices set up a dry eye clinic within 30 days. This incorporates business tips, over-the counter products, and in-practice treatments.

Sam Wymer, co-founder and sales and marketing director of The Body Doctor, told OT that following last year’s launch: “We had a lot of learnings, clinician feedback, and a lot of successful clinics have been created, but we realised quickly that we can do more."

Practice teams understand the clinical side to treating dry eye, Wymer explained, but were struggling with the business side of running a dry eye clinic.

Dry Eye Revolution has been designed to give practices the confidence to recommend in-clinic treatments to patients.

The resource has been written by Rosemin Mussa, senior contact lens optician and dry eye clinician, and learning and development manager at The Body Doctor.

“We utilise all her tips and tricks and provide that to all Dry Eye Revolution members,” Wymer shared.

Talking to OT about the issue of dry eye, Wymer shared: “Dry eye is becoming more and more prevalent.”

Patient habits are changing, he suggested, with dry eye patients more receptive to seeking treatment rather than suffering with the issue.

“There is more awareness around that and we can educate patients on that: ‘You're going to be sitting in an office, probably with air conditioning, in front of a computer or laptop for eight to nine hours a day. This damages the ocular surface and that’s what we can start to help with,’” he shared.

Wymer added: “The more we talk about it, the more we engage with patients about it, it is going to benefit the clinicians and the practices, but also the patients getting the treatment.”

OT also received a demonstration of the Zocular Zest Kit from the product’s founder, Dr Peter Pham.

The in-practice treatment is designed for patients with dry eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, demodex, and inflammation.
