Primary Eyecare Services (PES) hosted the first Enhanced Eye Care Conference in the West Midlands on 7 June.

More than 200 eye care professionals gathered at the West Bromwich Football Ground for a range of sessions that aimed to enhance knowledge of locally commissioned services, including Community Urgent Eyecare Service, cataract, and glaucoma pathways.

PES clinical lead and head of professional development, Wasim Sarwar, described the event as “a fantastic opportunity to bring practitioners together to support service delivery and quality improvement.”

“The level of engagement and feedback has been incredible, and we’re already looking ahead to future events,” he said.

The event was delivered in partnership with local optical committees across Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country, as well as sector bodies.

PES clinical director, Wendy Craven, highlighted that the level of enthusiasm demonstrated at the event is a credit to the Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country workforce.

“It was inspiring to see such strong engagement from clinicians committed to delivering the highest standards of care for their patients,” she said.

The event was supported by the Birmingham, Solihull and Black Country Workforce Development Project.
