Zeiss Meditec has paid tribute to a “deeply valued” colleague and member of the ophthalmic community.

Naheem Abbas died peacefully on 6 May, aged 45, with Zeiss Meditec sharing: “He battled cancer like he lived, with strength, humility, and strong faith.”

Abbas began his career as an orthoptist before moving to Birmingham Optical.

He then joined Zeiss, where he spent more than 14 years specialising in ophthalmic diagnostics, initially in the Midlands before moving to London.

The company highlighted: “Naheem dedicated his entire career to ophthalmology.”

An executive account manager at Carl Zeiss Meditec, Abbas has been described as “a deeply valued member of the Zeiss Meditec team and the wider ophthalmic community.”

“Passionate about his work, he built exceptionally strong relationships and was respected, admired, and loved by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all,” the company shared in a tribute.

Colleagues of Abbas expressed their condolences to his wife Mariam, two young children, and family at this difficult time.
