Primary Eyecare Services has partnered with the Centre for Vision Services Research.
Primary Eyecare Services head of research, Dr Amy Hughes, highlighted that the collaboration would help to strengthen the evidence base of eye care services and support innovation.
The Centre for Vision Services Research is an institution that brings together expertise from across Wales including Cardiff University, Swansea University, Bangor University and the University of South Wales.
“By drawing on our England-wide delivery of eye care services we hope to contribute valuable data from current service models and support evaluation of new models, making a real difference to patients, communities and the NHS,” Hughes explained.
The Centre for Vision Services Research has identified five priority areas that will be addressed as part of the partnership. These include reducing hospital eye service waiting lists, transforming sight impairment and rehabilitation pathways, advancing person-centred outcome measures, and improving vision care for vulnerable patients.
The partnership will also explore optimising care pathways, risk profiling, and new technologies.
Centre for Vision Services Research director, Professor Barbara Ryan, emphasised that the ambition of the centre to improve vision services can only be achieved through collective action.
“Our launch brought people together from so many sectors, which demonstrates our shared commitment to shaping a stronger, evidence-based future for eye care,” she said.
