The General Optical Council (GOC) has appointed Kalwant Grewal as a lay member of its council. His term began on 1 February, 2026.
A statement from the optical regulator shared that Grewal is a senior finance and governance professional with extensive experience across regulated, public interest, and membership organisations.
Grewal is a chartered certified accountant with a background in audit, risk, and financial oversight at board and committee level.
He currently holds a portfolio of non-executive and governance roles – including with statutory regulators.
GOC chair, Dr Anne Wright, welcomed Grewal’s appointment as a council member.
“He brings a strong commitment to public protection, governance, and proportionate regulation. His skills and experience will help us continue our vital work of protecting the public by upholding high standards in the optical professions and ensuring safe and effective eye care for all,” she said.
Grewal shared that he was looking forward to working with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the public is protected and that the GOC delivers on its strategic plan for 2025–2030.
“I am passionate about supporting regulators to maintain public confidence while enabling safe, effective, and inclusive professional practice,” he said.
