An initiative from Specsavers that involves community optometry and audiology practices working to improve access to eye care for people experiencing homelessness has been recognised during a retail awards ceremony.
Specsavers was named the winner of the Community Engagement Programme of the Year accolade at the People in Retail Awards in London.
The award celebrates excellence in initiatives and campaigns making a meaningful impact beyond the workplace, with other High Street names among the finalists.
Highly commended in the category were campaigns by Shelter and B&Q.
Engagement manager for the Specsavers homelessness programme, Joni Nettleship, said she was “proud and humbled” to have the multiple’s efforts recognised.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of our colleagues and partners across the country, who work tirelessly to serve their communities,” Nettleship said.
She added: “By improving access to care for people experiencing homelessness, we hope to remove barriers and help build healthier, more inclusive communities. We are grateful to everyone who supports this vital work – it is truly a collective effort.”
Specsavers partners with Crisis and Vision Care for Homeless People to provide eye and hearing care through free clinics, including Crisis at Christmas. It also provides out-of-hours clinics through Specsavers practices.
