Haag-Streit UK has launched two new innovations: the Elara 900 slit lamp and Refractor 900 digital phoropter.

The products made an international debut at the congress of the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, which was held in Denmark on 12–16 September.

Hamadi El-Ayari, chief commercial officer at Haag-Streit, described the launch of the new slit lamp as a “highly significant moment,” suggesting: “We have not only created a new slit lamp for the 21st century – we reinvented it.”

The Elara 900 aims to enhance visualisation of fine ocular structures across a range of clinical scenarios.

The device features a projector-based ‘P-Type’ light source, one-touch presets, motorised height and magnification controls, and an optional dual-camera set up for immersive 3D image and video capture in 4K.

Comfort has also been considered, with inclined oculars, a spacious headrest, and ergonomic controls.

The Refractor 900 digital phoropter was created for efficient, high-quality refraction with ultra-fast lens changes, 1/8 diopter adjustments in sphere and cylinder, and real-time video imaging for accurate vertex distance measurement.

The device supports customisable refraction sequences, for efficient control, and features a transparent lens carrier and quiet motor, with a touchscreen interface.

The Refractor 900 also benefits from multi-device compatibility and control of vision testing tools like the Acuity Chart 900, in order to simplify data exchange and minimise manual input.

Commenting on the Refractor 900, El-Ayari described it as: “a reliable, fast, and accurate phoropter based on trusted technology, with a design that delivers.”

The company has designated 2025 as “the year of innovation” for Haag-Streit, El-Ayari has said.
