Molly’s confidence grew with hands-on experience and the unwavering support of her colleagues.

Proving to herself that she could manage independently while always having her team for support was a significant milestone.
Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do at Specsavers, and Molly’s experience highlights this perfectly.
“When I was a pre-reg, I had my supervisor and several other optometrists I could turn to for advice,” she explains.
“Everyone’s role, whether it’s another optometrist or support staff, is vital in ensuring the patient gets the best possible care. It’s all about working together.”
Personalised care for every patient
Molly’s focus on personalised care is clear in her approach. She recalls a patient with flashes and floaters, where she identified a retinal tear.
“I explained what was happening and reassured him about the next steps, which involved being referred to the eye hospital. It was important to me that he felt informed and supported,” she says.
Building rapport quickly and making patients feel comfortable and understood is key to her practise. Understanding each patient’s unique needs is crucial.
“I always ask about their hobbies and daily activities,” Molly explains.
“Whether it’s discussing how vision is used for gardening or ensuring a prescription suits a computer user’s working distance, these little details make a big difference.”
