Essilor hosts family event for myopia education
The Class of Myopia event used Essilor’s new awareness programme, Eyestar Mission
11 December 2024
Essilor held a family event at its Kensington showroom in London to illustrate the importance of clear vision and raising awareness of myopia.
The Class of Myopia event on 29 November used a new classroom-based awareness programme created by Essilor, Eyestar Mission, which follows the space adventures of characters Charlie, Skyler and Eyo.
Gizem Topdagi, Stellest junior product and category manager at EssilorLuxottica, ran the session with Amisha Pau, an optometrist and medical science liaison lead at EssilorLuxottica.
The event follows a recent Ipsos survey commissioned by Essilor which revealed that 94% of parents of myopic children believe that wearing glasses will solve the issue.
Topdagi shared that running events like the Class of Myopia using the Eyestar Mission programme helps to empower children and parents to take ownership of their eye health.
“The session combined short videos, activities, and key learnings for a comprehensive and memorable experience,” Topdagi said, adding: “It also covered some useful take home lifestyle advice to help slow down the onset and progression of myopia, as well as raising awareness of myopia control optical solutions such as Essilor Stellest lenses.”

The Eyestar Mission educational programme has been successfully delivered in a number of countries already.
Eye care professionals can find out more about how they can deliver the programme in practice or local schools by speaking to their Essilor business development manager.
The UK website for parents, Mumsnet.com, provided support and raised awareness of the event.
Lauren Vanderplank, who attended the event with her nine-year-old son, said: “The optical experts made the Eyestar Mission programme engaging and interactive, leaving my son feeling confident and more informed about managing his short-sightedness and the benefits of Stellest lenses. I certainly learned a few things too.”
She continued: “It’s fantastic to see Essilor raising awareness of myopia, how to combat it, and empowering parents with the knowledge to spot the early signs – something I wish I’d known sooner as a mum.”
