Seiko moves spectacle lens production to the UK

Seiko Optical will move spectacle lens production to the UK and launch a training academy for eye care professionals.
As part of a multi-million pound investment programme, Seiko has moved much of its spectacle lens production to Wrexham, UK. The first UK-made orders are set to be dispatched this October.
A new Seiko Training Academy will also be opened at the Wrexham site to showcase technology such as the Seiko Xperience Centre to eye care professionals.
Moving production to the UK will provide faster delivery for practices, the company suggests, proposing that 95% of RX/Edge orders are set to be dispatched within 48 hours.
Seiko noted that moving production to the UK will support its sustainability efforts in the use of more efficient manufacturing technology, which will mean a significant reduction in water and energy consumption, along with a reduction in shipping miles.
Amongst the products that will be produced in the UK is Seiko’s SRC Ultra Coating, which launched this July.
Seiko will appoint a dedicated customer support companion for each partner to provide personalised support and a fast response to any queries.
Reflecting on the growth of Seiko Optical UK, Jonathan Cohen, commercial manager for Seiko, described the investment in Wrexham as a “huge leap forward for the business.”
He added that the announcement illustrates Seiko’s continued commitment to the UK, as well as “real, tangible benefits for all the dedicated vision care partners who trust Seiko products every day.”
