Bausch + Lomb on meeting the needs of toric users
Bausch + Lomb has made more than 6000 parameters available in the Ultra Multifocal for Astigmatism product. OT learnt more at 100% Optical
Bausch + Lomb has expanded its Ultra monthly product range with more than 6000 parameters available in the Ultra Multifocal for Astigmatism. OT found out more at 100% Optical (1–3 March).
Petra Vacca, business unit director for Vision Care UK/I and Nordics at Bausch + Lomb, shared: “We know that in the multifocal range for astigmatism, the options in the market are limited.”
The introduction of more than 6000 parameters, available with trials free-of-charge, presents an exciting opportunity, Vacca suggested.
She said: “It offers the eye care professionals an opportunity to fit people – like me – astigmats who get to that stage of presbyopia, so that we can continue wearing our lenses everyday with no compromises made.”
Richard Smith, head of professional services, EMEA Vision Care for Bausch + Lomb, added that: “From the statistics you see in everyday practice, there’s a very large drop-off of multifocal wearers. Certainly, in the over 45 age group we see a real decline in contact lens wearers.”
Illustrating the problem, he added: “Many of those toric wearers currently, as they move into that presbyopic age group – there isn’t a product for them.”
The expanded range of Ultra Multifocal for Astigmatism is in stock and ready to ship, the company highlighted, with more than 6000 parameters.
Having this available “makes a difference for ECPs to be able to fit a product very comfortably,” Smith said. He added: “For us, it has been a real gamechanger."
Bausch + Lomb Ultra One Day
Bausch + Lomb Ultra One Day was another key highlight for the company at 100% Optical, with a visual demonstration of the ComfortFeel Technology within the contact lens.
Nicola Hands, senior marketing product manager for Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb, explained: “Bausch + Lomb Ultra One Day is the only lens with ComfortFeel Technology so it makes it completely unique for practices to stand out and offer their patients that 16 hours of comfort.”
The technology was inspired by the TFOS DEWS II report, Hands shared, with ingredients incorporated in the contact lens to help with tear film homeostasis.
The ComfortFeel Technology passively diffuses ingredients like electrolytes, osmoprotectants, and moisturisers into the tear film throughout the 16 hours of wear “as the eye needs it,” Hands illustrated.
Smith shared that the product has been well-received by practices, with positive indications from a large scale in-clinic study of 9600 patients and 1300 practitioners across Europe as nine out of 10 patients said they could comfortably wear the contact lens all day.
The study found that nine out of 10 practitioners would consider the lens as a first-choice option.
