Community-based ophthalmology service provider, CHEC, has been recognised by the Tomorrow’s Care Awards 2023 for its Patient Booking App.

The awards recognise innovative and adaptable tools in the healthcare sector, with CHEC placing third out of 20 finalists.

CHEC’s app was launched in January 2022, allowing patients to access a range of options for appointment booking.

Designed to make the process convenient and equitable, the service provider has found that by offering patients booking flexibility, the app has minimised late cancellations and prevents patients missing appointments.

The app, which CHEC describes as “the first of its kind to be used by community health services,” has been used to book more than 385,000 appointments since its launch and is currently being accessed by more than half of CHEC’s patients.

Jose Bailey, commercial director at CHEC, said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the Tomorrow’s Care Awards, proving our commitment to offering our patients the best possible care and adopting the use of technological advances and innovations as pioneering methods to improve the patient journey.”

Bailey added that innovations are continuing to be delivered, with the aim of reaching as many patients as possible.

The award recognition follows a recent Care Quality Commission rating of ‘Outstanding’ received for CHEC’s Stoke centre, as well as the opening of two new centres in Worcester and Stevenage.
