Haag-Streit UK has announced the 2026 winners of its annual slit lamp imaging competition, which attracted 311 entries from 25 countries.

Submissions were evaluated based on image quality, technical execution and disease interest.

The first-place award in the image category was presented to Carmen Rodrigues of Augenklinik Luzerner Kantonsspital in Switzerland, for her image ‘PFC-Bubble and Tube.’

Captured on a Haag-Streit BX 900 slit lamp, the image presents a perfluorocarbon droplet adjacent to an intraocular tube.

Judges remarked on the sharpness, technical precision, and visual simplicity of the image.

Ophthalmologist, Jesús Conejero, who was part of the judging panel, commented: “The sharpness and exceptional definition of the image, combined with a carefully executed lighting technique, create a powerful visual impact that captures and holds the viewer’s attention.

In second place was Utpal Sarkar of Disha Eye Hospitals in India for the image: ‘Floating iris cyst in aqueous humor,’ while third place was awarded to Katie Lachut-Yevich of VCU Health, USA, for her image of a resorbed fibrous cataract.
