The World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Alcon dry eye initiative has partnered with the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE).

The partnership aims to help university instructors to easily access digital learning tools including the WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel and the Dry Eye Management Map.

IACLE members can gain direct access from the IACLE Teaching Online Platform (IACLETOP) learning management system.

Craig Woods, executive manager of educational development at the International Association for Contact Lens Educators, said: “IACLE’s involvement with the WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel allows its members to directly access this resource and share this with their students, helping the next generation of ECPs to be patient care ready.”

IACLE has more than 1100 members in 86 countries and spanning more than 600 academic institutions.

Cindy Tromans, president of WCO, said the partnership with IACLE would support awareness of the resources, sharing: “Dry eye disease is a growing issue worldwide, so it’s critical that educators are easily able to access the programme tools and use them to educate the next generation of ECPs.”

The most recent version of the WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel has been updated with the latest recommendations from the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society Dry Eye Workshop III report.

Carla Mack, global head of professional education and development at Alcon, said that expanding access to the resources through IACLE would help “equip educators and students around the world with the latest tools that support patient-centred care today – and create new opportunities to advance dry eye education in the future.”
