Zeiss collaborates for VR visual function tests
Zeiss Medical Technology and Envision Health Technologies aim to advance glaucoma care through VR innovation
22 June 2026
Zeiss Medical Technology has formed a strategic collaboration with digital eye health company, Envision Health Technologies, with the aim of advancing glaucoma care through gamified virtual reality (VR) technology.
The collaborators seek to strengthen scientific and clinical credibility in VR-based visual function testing.
The companies noted that demand is growing for broader access to glaucoma screenings and more flexible workflow solutions.
This is driving greater industry interest in portable, software-driven approaches to visual function testing, the companies said.
Anuj Kalra, head of chronic disease management at Zeiss Medical Technology, commented: “As glaucoma care continues to evolve, clinicians are looking for solutions that improve patient accessibility, flexibility and experience without compromising clinical confidence.”
The collaboration reflects a commitment to advancing “practical, clinician-driven innovation” that can help expand access to visual function testing across care settings, Kalra added.
Dr Lama Al-Aswad, a glaucoma surgeon and founder and CEO of Envision Health Technologies, said: “We believe the future of visual function testing should be more accessible, flexible, and patient-centred while remaining grounded in clinical rigour.”
The collaboration brings together Zeiss’ innovation strategy and experience in visual field testing with Envision’s work in software-driven visual function testing and virtual reality technologies with the vision of shaping the direction of VR perimetry.
Al-Aswad suggested this would “help advance more practical solutions for real-world glaucoma care.”
