Haag-Streit UK has announced the return of its annual slit lamp imaging competition, now in its eighth year, and is inviting eye care professionals to showcase excellence in ophthalmic imaging.

Established as a global platform celebrating clinical imaging, over the years the competition has grown into an internationally recognised showcase of imaging and clinical storytelling.

In 2025, the competition attracted 384 submissions from 32 countries. Entries are judged on image quality, technical execution, and pathological relevance.

Last year’s imaging category was won by Kasi Sandhanam of Singapore National Eye Centre, whose composite image – captured using a Haag-Streit BX 900 – stood out for its technical precision and artistic merit.

Second place was awarded to James Gilman of JPG Imaging LLC in the US, while Angela Chappell, from the Ophthalmology Department at Flinders Medical Centre in Australia, received third place.

In the video category, Augusto Paranhos Jr, of Forno e Paranhos Oftalmologia in Brazil, took the top prize with an entry captured on the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit lamp with Imaging Module 910 3D.

An international panel of judges will oversee the competition, bringing together expertise in ophthalmology, medical imaging, and slit lamp technology. Returning judges include Marc Curchod, from the Swiss Visio Lausanne, Switzerland; Jesús Conejero, from Hospital de Mérida, Spain; Cynthia VandenHoven from FOPS, and Haag-Streit representative, Jacqui Kenyon. They will also be joined by Marcel Meyer, a slit lamp imaging specialist at Haag-Streit.

Meyer said: “We are inspired each year by the exceptional quality and creativity of submissions from around the world. Show us what you see. We look forward to seeing how participants continue to explore and expand the possibilities of slit lamp technology.”

Submissions for the 2026 competition close on 30 July, with winners set to be announced on 30 September.

Full details, including entry guidelines and terms and conditions, are available on the official competition website.
