Optometrists are invited to complete a brief online survey on children’s eye care as part of research by Teesside University and Aston University.

Professor of optometry and inclusive practice at Teesside University, Hannah Bartlett, highlighted that the national survey of General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) performers and contractors aims to understand current clinical practice, professional confidence, and barriers to delivering paediatric eye care within NHS-funded services.

She added that completing the survey will help to identify challenges and opportunities in delivering children’s eye care.

“By gathering perspectives from all UK regions and practice types, this survey will help identify areas for service improvement and professional development to support early detection and management of childhood visual problems,” she said.

Topics covered within the survey include confidence examining children in different age groups, access to appropriate equipment and guidance, practical and financial considerations, and the adequacy of GOS remuneration for paediatric examinations.

The anonymous survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and closes on 14 February 2026. Click on the following link to complete the survey online.
