The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has launched the 2025 World Sight Day campaign, with a focus on putting “people at the heart of eye health.”

World Sight Day will be held on 9 October and will highlight real-life eye health stories, as a reminder that “at the heart of every piece of data is a person.”

The #LoveYourEyes campaign, which kicked off on 1 July, builds on the success of the last four years and aims to encourage “everyone, everywhere” to prioritise their eye health.

The campaign also calls for accessible, available, and affordable eye care for all.

For 2025, the campaign will centre lived experiences and community action and as part of this, IAPB has launched Every Story Counts, seeking to gather stories from people living with avoidable sight loss, caregivers, advocates, and eye health practitioners.

The organisation said: “Every Story Counts is our opportunity to combine stories to form one collective and powerful voice that is impossible to ignore.”

IAPB members and partners are encouraged to host vision screenings in parliaments and ministries, in order to bring eye screenings to policymakers.

The campaign will also encourage the public to book a sight test for World Sight Day.

Simon Darvill, IAPB director of communications, campaigns, and events, said: “World Sight Day is more than one day; it is a movement that grows each year. The earlier you get involved, the greater the impact is.”

World Sight Day toolkits and resources are available for anyone interested in participating in the campaign.

Darvill said: “I invite everyone to be part of the sectors’ biggest day for collective action and public engagement.”

The IAPB World Sight Day Photo Competition returns, celebrating its 10th anniversary with ambitions to host its “biggest and best” competition to date. The competition closes on 16 October, with results announced on 4 November.
