Primary Care Support England (PCSE) has published updated guidance for submitting GOS1, GOS5 and GOS6 claims through PCSE Online.

PCSE outlined in a statement how a fix has been identified for contractors who are unable to progress to the contractor signature page when entering a last sight test date that is earlier than the minimum interval for the patient’s eligibility criteria.

The fix is expected to be deployed by the end of next week, subject to successful testing.

“NHS England have agreed that until the issue is resolved, contractors should tick ‘Not known’ for the date of last sight test rather than enter a date in this scenario. The minimum interval check will flag if it is an early retest and an early retest code will be required for the claim to proceed,” the PCSE update explained.

If the early retest code cannot be confirmed until the sight test has been completed, PCSE advised contractors should select the retest code that they think is most likely to be correct in the given scenario.

“If once the sight test has been completed it transpires that a different early retest code is applicable, the performer should make a note on the patient record that a different code has been captured on PCSE Online, so that the scenario is clear if the claim is examined for audit purposes in the future,” the update highlighted.

PCSE recommends that contractors seek verbal consent before running a minimum interval check – as this step comes before the declaration where a patient consents for the NHS to use their data to check entitlement.

“The patient will provide consent in writing as normal when they sign the patient declaration,” the guidance stated.
