General Optical Council to move offices to Canary Wharf
The optical regulator is relocating to One Canada Square from its current central London offices in March as part of efforts to cut costs
05 February 2025
The General Optical Council (GOC) has announced that it will relocate to offices in Canary Wharf from the optical regulator’s current premises at 10 Old Bailey.
The GOC highlighted in a statement that the move, which is scheduled to take place on 24 March, will support the optical regulator’s “agile, hybrid working style.”
The new office space on the 29th floor of One Canada Square is smaller and more cost effective than the GOC’s current offices.
The regulator highlighted that both in person and remote fitness to practise hearings can be accommodated within the new premises, while the new offices are in a similar geographical area to other regulators and not-for-profit organisations.
GOC chief executive and registrar, Leonie Milliner, highlighted that One Canada Square will offer an improved, fully accessible working environment for staff and members.
“The cost savings achieved by relocating to a smaller and more cost-effective office will help us better deliver value for money and support the effective realisation of our new 2025-30 corporate strategy,” she emphasised.
Milliner added that the move will occur alongside the launch of the new strategy and will help the regulator to “deliver our mission of protecting the public by upholding high standards in eye care services and our new strategic priorities.”
