Family-run eye care product company, Scope Eyecare, has made a donation to Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) to support the charity in being able to deliver free eye examinations and spectacles to homeless people across the UK.

Scope Eyecare has supported VCHP for a number of years. The £2000 donation, which has been made through the Scope Community Fund, will support the charity in reaching its goal of providing eye care to 20,000 patients in the 20 years since it was established.

Daniel Achilles, medical and professional affairs advisor with Scope Eyecare, recently visited VCHP’s London Skylight clinic to see the charity’s work in action. He reflected: “We’re so happy to be able to support the amazing work that VCHP does and the impact they have on so many lives.”

VCHP fundraising manager, Alison Gordon, estimates that it costs the charity £25 to deliver a sight test to a patient through its clinics.

She explained: “For a third of our patients, we can claim this cost from the NHS. For those who don’t qualify for free sight tests, we need to cover the cost by fundraising. This £2000 award has helped us provide our services across our network of 10 clinics.”

Scope’s latest donation follows on from its support of Out of the Box Optics’ Optoversity Challenge – a student competition and VCHP fundraiser – for the past two years, as well as its continued contribution of eye drops to the charity.
