Vision Express staff take on 300km challenge to mark its 30th anniversary and raise funds for its charity partner
22 May 2018
A team of 30 Vision Express employees will take part in this year’s Ride4Sight challenge, a 300km cycle ride that aims to raise funds for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT).
As the multiple marks its 30th anniversary, it aims to raise £30,000 by completing the Ride4Sight challenge this September.
The team of cyclists includes Vision Express CEO, Johnathan Lawson, as well as Olympian Bryan Steel. Chair of CHECT, Ian Ellington, will also take part, as will Paralympian and CHECT patron, Darren Harris, who will ride on a tandem bike with Mr Steel.
During the two-day Ride4Sight challenge cyclists will ride to altitudes of up to 3000 metres. The team will start at Vision Express’ headquarters in Ruddington, Nottingham on 13 September, making their way past branches in Hanley, Crewe and Macclesfield.
On day two, the team will return to Nottingham via Vision Express’ Matlock store, as well as its practice within Tesco in Toton.
Speaking about the challenge, which is sponsored by CooperVision and the Road Haulage Association, CEO Mr Lawson said: “Every year that we have Ride4Sight it gets bigger and better, and it is really exciting this year to tie our 30th anniversary celebrations into the challenge. Over the past eight years of working with CHECT we’ve looked at new and innovative ways of fundraising and raising the charity’s profile and the Ride4Sight is always a great event to do just that.”
CHECT has been the multiple’s chosen charity partner since 2010.
