Optegra education offering

Hospital group Optegra Eye Health Care has hosted a range of events targeted at everyone from qualified optometrists, to pre-regs and students.

The events were led by head of Optegra’s research arm, Dr Clare O’Donnell, and her team, who ran the training for practitioners at Boots Opticians, Vision Express and students in regional clinics.

Practitioners attending the interactive training were invited into a consultation room to review cases, discuss referral criteria, interpret scans, go through clinical outcomes and see the improvement in vision that can be achieved after treatment.

Speaking about the training, Dr O’Donnell said: “Optegra has an enviable resource through its 90 surgeons and seven specialist eye hospitals, which means that we can support education with small and large groups, as well as Local Optical Committees (LOC) and universities, chains and individual optometrists in the community to share knowledge, expertise and help meet training requirements. We have a sustained track record for delivering this education and continue to develop our programmes to meet needs.”

Optegra confirmed that it has also hosted a range of bespoke training workshops at the request of individual optometrists. While a series of undergraduate training days and a minor eye conditions services objective structured examination session for the Confederation of Greater Manchester LOCs are planned for later this year.
