Awareness week dates announced

This year’s National Eye Health Week (NEHW) will be held on 18–24 September, its organiser Eye Health UK has confirmed.

The annual awareness week will once again focus on raising the public’s understanding about the importance of eye health.

Last year thousands of healthcare professionals, organisations and charities took part in the initiative, and Eye Health UK will be encouraging mass participation from national and regional stakeholders again, it has said.

The annual awareness week has steadily increased its effectiveness year on year, with research performed after last year's campaign revealing that 39% of UK adults recalled reading, hearing or seeing media relating to NEHW. Furthermore, 87% of those surveyed said it had encouraged them to take better care of their eye health.

Chair of Eye Health UK, David Cartwright, commented: “We hope to encourage everyone with an interest in vision and eye health to come together this September to promote engaging eye health messages.”

More information is expected to be released about this year’s awareness week in the next month.
