Lush greens, a retro-revival, natural inspiration and a celebration of sunshine are among key trends in sunglasses for the next season, according to Mondottica.

A recent press event held by the eyewear manufacturer showcased new styles in sunglasses from a number of Mondottica’s licenced brands, including: Joules, Ted Baker, Scotch & Soda, Hackett, and Vivienne Westwood.

Retro
Frames inspired by vintage styles remain a core trend in sunglasses
Frames were arranged into themes reflecting key trends across sunglasses in the coming season, from ‘Retro,’ and ‘Radiance,’ to ‘Nature,’ and ‘Green.’

The ‘retro’ trend continues, with Mondottica gathering a number of styles that draw inspiration from vintage models - from oversized frames to shapes that give a nod to the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Key shapes included classic aviators in lightweight metals, oversized square frames, and sharp cat’s eyes.

Highlighted amongst the models, Hackett Signature has introduced the ‘HJP803,’ a frame made with a slim titanium metal for a lightweight and comfortable, but luxurious feel. A top bar gives the frame a retro edge, while a bevelled nose bridge and patterned arms offer a unique twist.

Meanwhile, Ted Baker presented ‘Anniiya,’ a women’s frame in a butterfly style, with metal accents that wraparound the temples and long acetate tips.

Green
Green is set to the key colour in eyewear for the coming season
Green is set to be the “eyewear colour of the season,” Mondottica told OT. The eyewear company dedicated a display to the full spectrum of greens - from acetate frames in vibrant veridians, to subtle green touches seen in the lens colour or detailing.

Scotch & Soda has released a new frame featuring a tortoiseshell-effect colourway, with lighter green highlights in the front piece. The core is visible through the sides, finishing in metal end tips.

With summer on the horizon, Mondottica presented a range of sunglasses capturing the ‘radiance’ of the season, from golden frames, to lenses in sunset hues.

A stand-out collection among the new ranges was Vivienne Westwood’s line of sunglasses - Mondottica’s first sunglasses collaboration with the fashion company. The collection, which features bio-based acetate models, plays with exaggerated proportion and amplified silhouettes.

Amongst the sunglasses frames on display was the ‘Anouk,’ a bold wave-shaped brow featuring a striking mirror-effect look.

Available in a range of hues, the model achieves a frame-in-frame effect with two tone colouration and mirrored lenses.

Another style from Vivienne Westwood’s collection was the ‘Rococo’ sunglasses, made from a gold-tone metal and featuring Rococo-inspired embellishments along the sides and top bar.

Meanwhile, Ted Baker presented a round style in clear acetate with a retro keyhole bridge. The sides of the frame revealed the patterned metal core, while the end tips feature a delicate metal ‘T’ representing the brand’s characteristic branding.

Joules floral
Bringing a touch of nature into the frame, Joules’ new collection sees styles decorated with hand-drawn florals
Rounding off the key themes, Mondottica highlighted that getting back to ‘nature’ will be a drive for consumers this season. Materials draw inspiration from the natural world, while frames feature delicate hints of nature, or floral prints.

In line with the lifestyle-brands’ aesthetic, Joules has introduced a number of frames with delicate illustrated florals, reminiscent of the countryside.

Also exploring this this trend was Scotch & Soda’s line - ‘the geologist’s story’ with colours inspired by rock formations. In a retro butterfly-inspired frame made from a warm crystal acetate with rectangular lenses, the ‘Rossello’ sunglasses offers a surprise waved-shaped arm with tortoiseshell colouring.
