Austrian eyewear brand, Silhouette International, has announced plans to donate resources and provide new job opportunities for Ukrainian refugees.

The eyewear manufacturer is donating up to 10,000 pairs of eyewear to the Polish Opticians’ Support Network. The organisation will distribute 3000 pairs of eyewear to Ukrainian refugees in the greater Warsaw area.

The company is also creating 10 permanent positions for refugees at its headquarters in Linz, and its second production site in the Czech Republic. Training will also be provided, along with support in adjusting to life in Austria.

Silhouette’s Ukrainian-speaking employees will act as mentors to help staff to resume their careers.

Silhouette has organised a company-wide donation campaign, in partnership with the Austrian Red Cross, and will match employee donations.

The company is also suspending deliveries to distribution partners in Russia with immediate effect.

Commenting on the plans, Michael Schmied, chief marketing officer of Silhouette International, said: “As an international and family-owned business, we feel a huge sense of responsibility to take swift, direct action to help the people of Ukraine.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), suggested that more than 10 million people in Ukraine have been displaced, with 3.7 million refugees fleeing the country.

More than 2.3 million refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Poland (as of 30 March), the refugee agency estimates.
