Essilor and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have signed a three-year partnership that will promote good vision as a key pillar of road safety through a new awareness campaign.
The FIA Action for Road Safety campaign will see the governing body of motor sport and Essilor fight the lack of awareness around the importance of having a regular sight test to ensure safe driving.
A ‘check your vision’ call to action will be made, targeting local authorities, non-governmental organisations, eye care and medical professionals, and driving schools.
The message will be included alongside existing FIA driving rules relating to speed, alcohol and seat belts.
The partnership will see Essilor provide messages, data and analysis to support FIA communications on the role of vision and safe driving.
Essilor will also reinforce its products range based on the drivers’ specific needs.
Essilor president and chief operating officer, Laurent Vacherot, explained: “Today, it is estimated that nearly one in five people drive without adequate vision correction, which is a major risk factor for road safety. Through this partnership, Essilor is taking a step further in the group’s mission: improving lives by improving sight.”
